The Dears

The Dears played a fabulous show at Richards on Richards, I attended with my friend Shima who was completely unfamiliar with them prior to the show.
I told her I had an extra ticket and that this band could quite possibly change her life so we went and it was awesome.
Two opening bands, I didn't catch their names but chatted with the bass player from the first band outside. They were from Montreal and physically they resembled a much more handsome and sophisticated version of the Jonas brothers (thank you Shima for pointing that one out). I thought the opening bands were totally appropriate, you know how you go to some shows and the opening band kind of spoils the mood of the show... like they're just completely in a different range musically - I like consistency with music and there was definitely consistency at the Dears show.
They played a whole range of songs including "Lost in the Plot," "Lights Out" "Crisis 1 & 2" and "We can have it" (perfect encore song). Murray Lightburn completely commanded the stage, the show began with him in the crowd moving his way towards the stage and singing. His presence was really powerful, the band was solid as well and Natalia Yanchak is so incredibly powerful on keyboards - it was mesmerizing truly.
There was some douchebag in the crowd who kept shouting "supporting the troops in Afghanistan" I thought about going over to security and telling them he sexually harassed me so that he would get kicked out but I bit my tongue and just tolerated it. It made everyone standing around incredibly angry though and I don't think the band appreciated it either.
At one point a girl standing next to me pushed me to get closer to the stage and then attempted to reach out and touch Murray, he pulled back and sneered at her, it was awesome.. he wasn't even remotely discreet about it.

I loved the show and I love the Dears, seeing them live reinforced everything I've been saying about them for years, they are GREAT.
